Things to do in Palo Alto besides celebrating our spiritual merging

Below is a list of stuff to do in the Palo Alto area and beyond, most of which is accessible by public transportation. You can go green by going here: http://caltrain.org/

Or you can destroy the ecosystem and drive. (sidenote: the wedding venue is not pub-trans accessible, but it's okay to destroy the ecosystem for a good cause)

CLOSE TO/IN PALO ALTO

University Avenue: Shops and restaurants reminiscent of the dot-com boom. This would have been a college town if there weren't so many yuppies.

Downtown Mountain View: Shops and restaurants somewhat-indicative of the Google boom. Fantastic Asian food and Irish pubs. Free Wi-fi city-wide. This is where Robby and crew preferred to hang during their undergrad days. Jeanne and Robby's first date (09/17/05) was here at Molly Maghee's dance-pub. Now we just go there for food and boba (a delicious tapioca-laden drink from Taiwan).

Stanford University: Visit the world-famous university. Robby's alma-mater.

KINDA NOT AS CLOSE TO PALO ALTO (40ish minutes driving)

University of California Berkeley: Visit the other world-famous university. Jeanne's alma-mater.

Half Moon Bay: This is the closest beach to Palo Alto. Don't forget - if you've never been here, IT'S GOING TO BE COLDER THAN YOU EXPECT. If you want to swim, bring your bikini ...and a wet suit.

Great America Theme Park: Like going on big rides and overpaying for junk food? You won't see Mickey here, but you can act as goofy as you like.

Bring your heart to San Francisco. Leaving it behind is optional but recommended.

Golden Gate Bridge: standing since 1937; SF Chronicle called it the "thirty-five million dollar steel harp!"

Fisherman's Wharf: Watch sea lions bark & munch on a sourdough bread bowl filled with clam chowder.
Directions: http://www.fishermanswharf.org/Directions.htm

Union Square, Chinatown & Little Italy: Like shopping and sex shops? Start at Union Square for the classy stuff, then head north to Chinatown for some noodles and ninja swords, then north to Little Italy for some pasta and licentiousness.

Haight-Ashbury: Like hippies? There aren't as many as their used to be, but this is still a pretty hip place. Robby's fav mid-eastern restaurant/hookah bar in SF (Kanzaman) is here on Ashbury.

Castro District: You may have heard there are some gay people in SF. Can you find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow flag?

Ferry Building: Renovated building - yummy locally grown organic foods: vegetables, chocolates, cheeses, & wines.

Legion of Honor: Great view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Directions: http://www.famsf.org/legion/visiting/index.asp

San Francisco Modern Museum of Art: Good art.

de Young Museum: An architectural site to see in a beautiful location (Golden Gate Park).

Exploratorium: Museum of Science, Art, & Human Perception - good for kids under 100!

FAREST FROM PALO ALTO
Run, farest, run.

Santa Cruz (about 45 minutes south): Didn't get to see the sea lions at Fisherman's Wharf, the beach at Half Moon Bay or the hippies on Haight Ashbury? Get three for the price of parking in Santa Cruz. They have an extensive boardwalk and a beautiful pier, made of boards, upon which you can walk as well. Sand and ocean complementary.

Napa Valley (few hours north): Taste some old grape juice!

Monterey & Carmel by the Sea (4+ hours south): it's kinda far but the aquarium and views are worth the drive if you've got the time.
